Wood Storage & Garbage Bins

Firewood Storage up to 1-Cord (unit)

Outdoor Firewood Log Storage Rack. A cord is the amount of wood that, when "racked and well stowed" (arranged so pieces are aligned, parallel, touching, and compact), occupies a volume of 128 cubic feet (3.62 m3).This corresponds to a well-stacked woodpile 4 feet (122 cm) high, 8 feet (244 cm) wide, and 4 feet (122 cm) deep; or any other arrangement of linear measurements that yields the same volume. The name cord probably comes from the use of a cord or string to measure it.

The face cord is a unit of volume for stacked firewood, 8 feet long, 4 feet wide, and 16 inches high—equal to 1/3 of a cord. The symbol for the unit is fc - cd.

Garbage Bins

We have three garbage bins, but we only use two. The large green bin is for recycling, and the small gray bin is for garbage. Please note that according to the City of Falls Church Rules, the recycling bin cannot contain garbage bags, so all recycling must be rinsed and placed in loose!

At the present time, all trash at Wrens Way is collected on Wednesdays in the early morning. All bins must be taken to the neighborhood curb-entrance on Tuesday night and must be returned to the property by Wednesday evening.
